Feeling very thankful this morning. Of course I’m thankful for the obvious – my family, my health (though I state that with caution – it changes minute to minute but hey, I’m breathing.), a roof over my head and food to eat - but it’s the little things that I am thankful for today.
Thankful for the sunny day and the warmth of that sun shining through my windows (even though it’s freezing outside). A sunny day is sometimes just what the doctor ordered.
Thankful for these nice warm slippers
Thankful for the clean mammogram I had yesterday. Though there was fear for a few minutes as my doc walked over to radiology to “get a closer look”, but in the end it was clear. Clear is good.
Thankful for this toasty little stove that takes the edge off chilly mornings like today.
Thankful for this big dining room table.
It’s the same size as the one I grew up with and I think that was important for me when we selected it. I have such great memories of dinners that lasted for hours at that table. Family and friends that joined us there, oh and being forced to stay at that table until I finished my milk (WHY didn’t anyone let me know that if I put an ice cube in my milk it would be cold again and so much more bearable?! That would have been some handy advice, would have saved me a lot of pain and a lot of time too!), the memory of singing “Annie” songs at the top of my lungs with my sisters and cousins, remembering hanging spoons off our noses and donning napkin hats, watching my grandmother eat a taco for the first time…memories. Memories….light the corners of my mind… sing it Barbara!
I digress.
Thankful for this little space I’ve carved out in the mudroom. Still need to paint that chair but…
it’s a place to make me feel like I’m still an organized person. Hey, January 1 is right around the corner and with it comes all those fresh starts, it’s like the first day of school!
Thankful for this coffeepot. Nothing beats a good cup of Joe in the morning. I take mine with Splenda and cream, you?
And thankful for this little invention,
it’s giving me such happiness lately. I am LOVING the time I get at this little piece of machinery. What a feeling to complete a project and sit back and marvel for a second at the thing you just made all by yourself without the help of anyone. I’m churnin’ out all kinds of goodies and having all kinds of fun while the kids are at school but I can’t really show them to you or talk about them here because my family reads my blog from time to time and I’m a big fan of being people being surprised on Christmas morning (contrary to what my family would say about my earlier days of snooping!).
I’m also thankful for the technology that brought me my computer and the Internet. With these two things I’ve been able to get answers to questions immediately. Unlike the days of my youth, schlepping to the library in the dead of another Wisconsin winter, risking frostbite to my ears rather than risk the chance of running into someone I know with my hat on. Then finally getting to the library to find out I have $4.67 in late fees and have only $2.38 in my pocket. $2.38 that I sure as hell was NOT giving to the library – I had PLANS for the weekend! Then complaining all the way home about the fact that we were the ONLY family without a set of encyclopedia’s. And people wondered why it was just easier for me to not turn in an assignment!
And with that, I leave you with this:

LOve your Thankful post. I’m right there with a number of your thankful items, accept for the sewing machine–I don’t have the concept of understanding how to use it mastered, lol. Sorry, had to laugh at you about the library fine–and here I’ve thought that only happened to me!
Have a great day!! and happy I’ve found your blog!
