Happy Mother’s Day!

A very Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mutha’s out there!  I had a really nice day today that started with being treated to not only the fact that my two older children woke up before me but they cooked me eggs too!  My daughter added in a bowl of cereal and a glass of o.j. and it was just perfect.  While eating I was presented with a beautiful card my daughter made in her after school enrichment calligraphy class.  Then my two oldest gave me another card and a gift card to the local nursery,  a true surprise.  So much so that I was so bad and asked them if it was the gift card we had already in the drawer!!!  Aren’t I terrible, thinking they re-gifted me with a gift of my own!  They still will not reveal how they pulled the purchase off but I’m thinking my sister-in-law may have played a role in it…  I am just tickled as it’s the first time my children have really truly initiated a gift for Mother’s Day for me.  To top it off the weather was simply mahvelous and we enjoyed a very summery dinner of corn on the cob, a fresh salad made from the mesclun greens I picked up at our CSA farm today and yummy burgers of the beef variety for the boys and the Garden burger variety for me!  We dipped some monsterous strawberries in chocolate and enjoyed those after dinner, dishes, and showers!

I did miss a call from my husband but luckily was able to have a decent length conversation with him on Friday night so I wasn’t too pouty.  We are on the home stretch now, two months to go and he should be home.  Now on to the 8000 projects I’d like to complete before he gets home!

Today is also a very special day for me, it is my Mother’s Birthday.  I lost my Mom to Breast Cancer, almost 17 years ago while I was at the end of my first pregnancy.  My mom was only 44 years old when she died and would have turned 61 today!  Now that my sisters and I are pretty darn close to 44 ourselves, everything comes in so much clearer as to just where our mom really was in her life and how young she truly was.  When you’re not anywhere near 40, and it’s your parent’s your talking about, 40 is old!  As I get ready to turn 40 myself in just a few more months, I realize now that mom was just getting started!  My mom had a fabulous quote of her own that now I truly get; “Life up to 40 is just a rehearsal.”

Being one of those snotty 18 year olds who thought she knew everything, I know now that I had so much more to learn and that you really are just getting started around the age of 40.

Happy Birthday Mom!
